FAQs

Are Referrals necessary?

No, a referral from a doctor, midwife, or nurse practitioner is perfectly acceptable but not necessary to schedule or undergo an ultrasound exam.

If a referral is not necessary can I still use my Health Savings Account (HSA) card?

If the ultrasound exam is in response to a medical issue, the exam is considered necessary and can be purchased with a Health Savings Account card. If you are simply interested in seeing the sex of your baby, or would like 3D pictures of the baby’s face, for example, those services are not medically indicated and would be purchased through conventional means like cash or a debit card.

Will the cost of the ultrasound exam be counted as a deductible expense by my health insurer?

That would depend on the Insurer. You are encouraged to speak with your medical insurer prior to your visit with Assurance. We will provide any necessary documentation you ask for.

Who reads the ultrasound exams?

Dr. Thomas Page is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology with over 35 years experience performing and interpreting ultrasound exams.

Will a report of my ultrasound exam be provided to my Healthcare Provider if no referral was made?

Assurance Ultrasound will send a report of your exam if and only if you request one be sent.

What happens if I schedule an ultrasound to see the sex of my baby and something abnormal, or unexpected is seen?

In the event of an unexpected finding during an exam, the specifics of that finding would be discussed with you and an appropriate course of action considered. We would ask that you allow us to contact your doctor or midwife’s office and expedite your continued care with them.

Can I schedule an ultrasound to see my uterus and ovaries if I’m not pregnant?

Yes. Ultrasounds are often medically necessary to evaluate abnormal uterine/vaginal bleeding and/or pelvic pain. If you would seek medical care for your pelvic complaint you can schedule an ultrasound as the first step of your evaluation of your pelvis.

If my doctor or midwife suggests that I need an ultrasound, can I suggest that I be referred to Assurance Ultrasound?

Yes. Most medical practices are owned by large multispecialty groups or hospitals and would have ultrasound departments of their own where they would prefer you be directed. You certainly have the right to ask your practitioner if they would refer you to Assurance Ultrasound.

Do you do infertility scans?

Yes, we offer infertility evaluations or antral follicle counts. This is done via a transvaginal scan for $189. AFC is the most direct measure of ovarian reserve and corresponds to how many eggs are likely to be retrieved during IVF.
